Parliament Tour

Our team recently had the honour of being invited on a Parliament tour led by the MP for Barking, Nesil Caliskan, who personally guided us through some of the most historic and iconic areas of the UK Parliament. The Caremark Barking and Dagenham Parliament Tour offered an incredible insight into the workings of government, the history of Westminster, and the traditions that continue to shape our democracy today. It was both an educational and memorable experience for our team, and one we will not forget.

Beginning the Parliament Tour

The MP for Barking welcomed us at 1 Parliament Street, where our tour began. From there, we walked through Portcullis House, home to the offices of many MPs. She explained the origins of the name “Portcullis”. She showed us the vibrant open areas, complete with cafés, restaurants, and even a post office, which support the day-to-day activities of Parliament. The Caremark Barking and Dagenham Parliament Tour was a unique experience that started here.

Historic Tunnels and Westminster Hall

Next, we went through the tunnel beneath Big Ben, a route that leads directly to the car park where the Prime Minister and ministers arrive for meetings. This also connects to buildings that house offices above.

We were then guided into the magnificent Westminster Hall, one of the oldest and most historic parts of Parliament. The MP highlighted important landmarks, including where members of the Royal Family have lain in state, and other moments of national significance. The grandeur and history of the Hall left a lasting impression on the team.

Exploring the Chambers of Parliament

We also had the opportunity to walk through the old chambers where Parliament once sat, before arriving at the connecting room that leads to the House of Commons on the left and the House of Lords on the right.

Visiting both chambers was a highlight of the Caremark Barking and Dagenham Parliament Tour. The MP for Barking explained the processes that take place in each, including how voting is carried out. It was inspiring to see firsthand the very places where key decisions shaping the country are made.

We rounded off the tour with photos in Westminster Hall, capturing the spirit of what had been an unforgettable day.

Conclusion – A Memorable Caremark Barking and Dagenham Parliament Tour

The Parliament tour provided our team with a unique opportunity to learn more about the democratic process and the history behind one of the UK’s most important institutions. We are grateful to the MP for Barking for not only extending the invitation but also personally connecting with our team throughout the visit. The Caremark Barking and Dagenham Parliament Tour left us with a deeper appreciation of the democratic values that underpin our work and community.
