Carers Week 2025: Why It Matters and How We’re Supporting It

As we approach Carers Week 2025, running from 9th to 15th June, it’s more important than ever to recognise and support the millions of unpaid carers across the UK who provide essential care to loved ones every single day. At Caremark Barking, Dagenham and Newham, we are proud to stand with carers – raising awareness, promoting equality, and helping connect carers with the support they deserve.
🌟 What is Carers Week 2025?
Carers Week is an annual national campaign that aims to:
- Raise awareness of caring and unpaid carers,
- Recognise the contribution carers make to families and communities,
- Encourage carers to self-identify and access vital support.
The theme for Carers Week 2025 is “Caring About Equality”, highlighting the inequalities carers often face, such as financial hardship, social isolation, and poorer mental and physical health.

🧑🤝🧑 Who Counts as an Unpaid Carer?
An unpaid carer is anyone who supports a family member or friend who is ill, disabled, older, or has a mental health condition or addiction — and does this without receiving payment. This role is often misunderstood or overlooked, yet it forms the backbone of community care.
You may be a carer without even realising it. If you’re regularly helping someone manage daily tasks, medications, or emotional support, you are likely fulfilling a carer’s role.

⚖️ Carers and the Fight for Equality

Carers are more likely to:
- Miss out on career progression and education,
- Experience mental and physical health struggles,
- Live on a lower income due to reduced work opportunities.
Despite their tireless work, carers often face unequal access to health services and emotional support. Carers Week 2025 shines a light on these challenges — pushing for change so that no carer feels invisible.
💙 How Caremark Barking, Dagenham and Newham Supports Carers
At Caremark, we understand that carers — whether paid or unpaid — play a vital role in delivering compassionate, person-centred care. That’s why we:
- Signpost unpaid carers to local carer support services and carer centres,
- Work collaboratively with family carers to ensure continuity of care,
- Train our staff to recognise the signs of carer strain and stress.
We believe that supporting carers strengthens the entire care network. If you’re caring for someone in our community and need guidance or a break, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
