Care for Young Adults and Vulnerable People

Many people assume that home care is only available to older people. However, many care providers like us also offer care for young adults and vulnerable people. One of the main benefits is to enable a young person to live independently within their community. If a young adult has complex needs and lives at home, respite care can be given to support family carers. We share how we provide support for over 18s such as Ace, our youngest customer.

Caring for Younger Adults and Over 18s

Home care for younger adults in Warwick might include similar activities to caring for the elderly, such as companionship, medication assistance, and personal care. However, there are often different reasons why some over 18s and vulnerable adults need support. They may have a disability, mobility issue or injury that impacts their daily lives.

A person-centred care approach is important when supporting a young adult to ensure their dignity and to help them live as independently as possible. This helps to build their confidence and feel in control of their own lives. Care plans can be tailored to their exact needs, giving them the ability to make decisions about daily routines.

Many young adults live independently within their local communities and just need help with certain tasks such as cooking, shopping or other household chores.

Live-In and Respite Care for Adults

Some young adults with more complex needs may need to live within the family home. Caring for someone 24/7 can lead to burnout for carers, so regular respite from daily care is recommended.

Live-in care can be provided for young adults with complex needs with a dedicated care assistant offering round-the clock care in the comfort of their own home. This type of support can also be provided as short-term respite care for families who need to take a break.

Ace’s Story: How we Helped our Youngest Customer

One of our youngest clients, Ace, achieved her dream of living independently and studying at college. As an 18-year-old wheelchair user, Ace wanted to live away from home in accommodation so she could study her favourite course at Leamington Spa College.

“I honestly don’t think I could’ve achieved that dream without the help of the carers, Barney and the office staff at Caremark. They’ve all worked tremendously hard to support me with settling into a new and scary environment by building a safe and supportive network for me whilst on this incredible journey.

They’ve been hard-working, friendly and really paid attention to detail in my routines. They’ve also gone the extra mile by driving me home on Friday nights, doing Bollywood dancing to help me through my really boring physiotherapy sessions and taking me to my first student party!

I think Caremark and their wonderful staff deserve a huge gold medal and a shout out. Thank you for everything! It means the world to me.”
