Make a difference
Natalie Meeson became a carer to make a difference and she’s been doing that on a professional and personal basis ever since.
Natalie was inspired to make care a career after helping to look after her father when he was involved in an accident when she was young.
She worked in learning disability care for 16 years, supporting adults in the community and this included dementia and end of life care.
This experience served her well in many ways.
Natalie explains: “My grandfather got dementia so having seen this in others, I knew what to expect and I helped care for him and towards the end of his life we went on a big family holiday with him, which was lovely.”
Natalie spent the last few years in her previous job as a Team Leader but having twins led to her re-evaluating her career.
She adds: “I wanted a better work/life balance and so I took some time out before deciding to give homecare a go with Caremark Wakefield and it has ended up being the best thing I have done.
“It’s been brilliant for me as the skills are transferable but more importantly it has given me more flexibility and enabled me to spend more time with my family.
“I had started to hate going to work in my previous job, but I love it here.
“I have always wanted to make a difference to people’s lives and I know I am doing that by supporting our customers in Wakefield.”
Even now, in her spare time, she still provides care to her dad and also enjoys spending quality time with her family. She also likes walking, gardening, going to the gym and is currently in the process of renovating her home.
