Healthy Eating Week
In June, we enjoyed getting involved in the annual Healthy Eating Week! As part of our involvement for 2024, we encouraged our Staff and Clients to ‘Give It A Go’ and try to adopt some new healthy habits. We explored ways to maintain a healthy diet, stay hydrated and be more active. By the end of the week, we were all healthy eating experts!
This year’s theme for Healthy Eating Week is ‘Give It A Go’. It can be hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but there are small changes you can make which have a huge impact. An easy starting point is ensuring that you get your five-a-day, everyday. Did you know that frozen, dried and canned fruits and vegetables all count towards your five-a-day? They don’t have to be fresh to be healthy! It’s also important to stay hydrated- you should aim to drink around eight glasses of water per day. When you break this down, that’s one drink every two hours. This is definitely achievable, and will help you to feel more alert and awake throughout the day. Perhaps you could swap your five minute bus journey for a fifteen minute walk? This gives you a great opportunity to be more active each day, whilst also enjoying the sunshine that we’ve been having recently. These habits are easy to implement into your lifestyle, and we’re encouraging all of you to ‘Give It A Go’ and start here!

You’ll start to notice your physical health improving pretty soon. Balanced meals are naturally beneficial for maintaining a healthy weight, and help to lower your cholesterol levels and blood pressure. In the long term, this will reduce your risk of heart disease and diabetes. Your immune system will also be boosted, as your diet will provide all of the nutrients needed to keep your body going! You’ll feel stronger, fitter and more energetic each day.
Diet and physical activity are also proven to impact mental wellbeing. An inadequate diet enhances feelings of fatigue and stress, and can even lead to depression. Eating healthily promotes good brain health. By eating nutritious meals every day, you will begin to notice that you feel more alert, concentrate better and think clearly. It is recommended that those with mental health conditions can adjust their diet to improve their symptoms, by avoiding refined sugars and processed foods. Coffee, ice cream and cake all taste great- but they lead to inflammation in your body and brain, and ultimately make you feel worse after eating them. Food can have a major impact on the way you feel every day, and pairing your healthy diet with some light exercise will give you a further boost.
There are so many benefits to living a healthier lifestyle, and we were so pleased to see our Staff and Clients getting involved in Healthy Eating Week. It’s not too late to get involved- you can still ‘Give It A Go’ and make some positive changes to your diet. We’d love to hear about any healthy habits you’ve managed to implement into your lifestyle, and the difference it has made for you!
