What Is the Macmillan Coffee Morning?
The Macmillan Coffee Morning is one of the UK’s biggest fundraising events to support people living with cancer. Across the country, friends, families, workplaces, and communities gather over coffee and cake to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The idea is simple: share a hot drink, enjoy a slice of cake, and donate what you can. Yet the impact is huge. In 2024 alone, Coffee Mornings raised millions of pounds; funding Macmillan nurses, support workers, and vital services that ensure no one has to face cancer alone.
What Macmillan Does for Our Community
A cancer diagnosis can turn life upside down, not just for the person but also for their loved ones. Macmillan steps in to provide care and support at every stage, from diagnosis and treatment to life after cancer. Attending events like our Coffee Morning helps amplify this support.
Their work includes:
- Specialist nurses and support staff who provide expert medical, emotional, and practical help.
- Information and guidance to help people understand their diagnosis, treatment options, and rights.
- Financial advice for those struggling with the cost of living with cancer.
- Community services to reduce isolation and make sure nobody goes through cancer alone.
Every pound raised at Coffee Mornings helps Macmillan continue this work. For example, £28 could fund a Macmillan nurse for an hour, giving someone living with cancer the support they desperately need.
Why We’re Getting Involved
At Caremark Peterborough, we see first-hand the importance of compassion, care, and community support. Many of the people we work with have been affected by cancer in some way, whether directly or through a loved one. Hosting a Coffee Morning as part of the Macmillan efforts is our way of giving back, raising funds, and standing alongside Macmillan in their mission.
But here’s something important we want to share: yes, we are a business providing care services in this community, but to us, it’s never just about business. Our role here is bigger.
