Disability Sport Inclusion: Caremark North Herts and Stevenage’s Commitment

Caremark North Hertfordshire & Stevenage is honoured to stand as a brand partner for No Limits 2026, Hertfordshire’s Year of Disability Sport & Physical Activity. Demonstrating Caremark North Herts and Stevenage’s commitment to sport disability, it is an ambitious, county-wide movement committed to removing barriers. The movement creates welcoming, equitable opportunities for disabled people and individuals with long-term health conditions.
The Disability Symposium launched No Limits 2026 at the The University of Hertfordshire on November 27th 2025. It unites sport providers, health organisations, local ambassadors, and brand partners to champion accessible, community-led sport and physical activity across Hertfordshire. Led by the Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership and supported by inclusive-minded organisations across the county, the campaign reflects a shared belief. Everyone deserves the chance to move, connect, and thrive.

What is Disability Sport Inclusion?
Disability sport inclusion ensures that disabled people have equal, meaningful, and empowered opportunities to take part in sport and physical activities. Whether recreationally, competitively, or socially, it goes beyond simply ‘allowing participation’. It shifts the focus on creating environments where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and able to thrive. Disability sport inclusion is critical to ensuring sports for individuals with disabilities are accessible.
Bridging the Inequality Gap
Adults with a limiting illness or disability are twice as likely to be inactive. Reducing this gap requires collective action and genuine partnership. (See the section below on Barriers to Being Active). Caremark North Herts and Stevenage is committed to working alongside the community to:
- Raise awareness
- Empower through opportunities
- Champion inclusion for all
Championing Inclusive Opportunities in Hertfordshire
A core aim of No Limits 2026 is to expand the visibility and availability of inclusive sport and physical activity sessions. Through tools like the Moving More Activity Finder, people living with disabilities can easily find activities such as:
- Wheelchair sports
- Adaptive fitness sessions
- Community-based activities
- Local inclusive physical activity opportunities
- Over 40 online exercise videos
- Free resistance bands and additional resources
Activity providers, leisure operators, and organisations are encouraged to upload their sessions to the Moving More Activity Finder to find sports for individuals with disabilities in your chosen area. Wheelchair sports and other disability sports are crucial components of this initiative.
No Limits 2026 Ambassador Programme
The Ambassador Programme highlights individuals with lived experience who are passionate about shaping a more inclusive future for sport. One such ambassador is Miller Flanagan, a personal trainer living with Cerebral Palsy. Supported by Caremark North Hertfordshire and Stevenage, Miller attended the campaign launch. He connected with leaders including Adam Blaze, Chief Executive of Activity Alliance, to advocate for disability sport inclusion. Read more about the Ambassador Programme and send it to individuals who you believe will make great ambassadors.
Miller’s voice and leadership reflect the programme’s mission to elevate real experiences, challenge misconceptions, and support a cultural shift in how disability sports are understood and delivered. Miller, a fully qualified Personal Trainer, recently launched his business, Para is Power, dedicated to supporting people in overcoming the barriers that often limit access to sport and activity.

Supporting Organisations and Small Providers
No Limits 2026 also uplifts small businesses, community groups, and independent providers who want to create or expand inclusive activity programmes. The campaign offers:
- Small Grants and Bursaries for disability-inclusive initiatives
- Free 1:1 bid-writing support
- Access to a Disability Inclusion Learning Series offering practical training to help organisations build welcoming, accessible environments
This fully aligns with Caremark North Hertfordshire and Stevenage’s commitment. They empower local providers and strengthen community wellbeing through inclusive participation. Funding for disability sports is vital to these efforts.
Barriers to Being Active
Many people continue to face challenges that limit their ability to participate in sport and physical activity, including:
- Limited awareness of available opportunities
- Transport barriers to facilities or outdoor spaces
- Low confidence
- Cost of accessing facilities
- Inadequate accessibility of facilities or outd
Main Areas of Support Required
To ensure inclusive activity is available to all, many providers and organisations need:
- Funding for disability sports
- Extra staff, coaches, or volunteers
- Access to relevant training
- Inclusive and appropriate equipment
- Marketing and community outreach support
- Access to suitable, accessible facilities
