Determined to get back on her feet again

After two hip replacement operations, Susan Nicholson admits her confidence has taken a knock, but with the help of Caremark Mansfield & Ashfield, she’s determined to get back onto her feet again.

“I’m a bit of a wobbly duck but once I get going I’m fine,” said Susan. “It’s good to know a carer will be popping in to see me each morning to help me get up and running.”

Susan worked as amender at a local knitwear factory and her husband was an engineer. They shared a passion for narrow boats and in their time owned three which they toured canals with.

“He would steer and I would operate the locks,” said Susan. “It kept you fit and it was lovely to get out into the countryside, I do miss it.”

A care plan was drawn up to enable Sue to return home

Susan, 77, was widowed eight years ago and was recently in hospital for a second hip replacement operation. A care plan was drawn up with Caremark Mansfield & Ashfield to enable her to return home.

“My confidence has taken a knock so I’m trying to build it back up again so it’s good to know a carer will be popping in each morning to check I’m ok and lend a helping hand,” said Susan.

She has a sister she speaks to regularly who is also not in the best of health.

“It gives her peace of mind to know someone is visiting every day,” said Susan.

“I do have the odd turn which affects my balance. Thankfully the carer was here last time and was able to call an ambulance and my sister to re-assure her.”

The carers are very kind

As well as helping Susan get set up for the day, the carers also check she is on track with her medicine and help with various domestic tasks.

“They are very kind and I like our morning chats,” said Susan.

“I don’t want to give in and with the help of the carers I will get there.”
