Determined to be in her own home
When Madeline Brentnall suffered a stroke three years ago she was determined to be in her own home, despite being paralysed down her left side.
“It was very important for me to return to my bungalow after leaving hospital,” said Madeline. “It was the only bit of independence I had left and I didn’t want to lose it.”
A care plan was drawn up between Caremark Mansfield & Ashfield, Madeline’s family and other agencies to provide the support that would allow her to return home.
Personal, medical and social care support
Daughters Sally and Kirsty and her seven grandchildren visit regularly and our Care Assistants call in four times a day to provide personal, medical and social care support.
“I’ve found the carers to be lovely people, thoughtful, helpful and tidy, “said Madeline.
“I look forward to their visits and the chats we have, usually about our families.”
Madeline lived with her partner Billy for 40 years before she was widowed eight years ago. She was a “picker and a packer” at a local mill whilst Billy worked as a miner. He was a keen gardener and they enjoyed fresh grown produce from his allotment and greenhouse as well as regular holidays in Spain.

“We used to love going to Benidorm, it was very similar to the TV programme,” jokes Madeline.
She enjoys watching TV, with Emmerdale a favourite, and also reading the novels of Catherine Cookson. Each day she looks forward to the visit of her carers.
“I don’t like to be rushed, I need to do things in my own time in my own home and they understand that”, said Madeline.
