Challenging

Margaret* is an alcoholic and as such found daily tasks in her home challenging.
She was referred to Caremark and we put a care plan in place which included personal care, meal preparation and companionship.
During the first few months, our care staff found it difficult to engage Margaret due to her drinking but she slowly began to respond to them. Working with her we tweaked her companionship calls setting out some smaller tasks that she could participate in with a road map of also achieving more activities, such as cooking at home, cleaning, organising and accessing the community.
Margaret is now fully engaged with our companionship calls we provide and looks forward to them each week. Her volume of alcohol has reduced significantly and she enjoys going out into the community for a meal or an activity, of her choosing, which has made her mental wellbeing also much more positive.
