Years of experience

Blessing Maringanise gained several years of experience working as a nursing assistant in a busy hospital before her current home care support role with Caremark Leeds Bradford.

This experience taught her that good preparation is vital before any course of care and it’s a key factor in why she considers Caremark a good company to work for.

“I’ve been with Caremark for two years now and I love it,” said Blessing. “Caremark values its staff and its clients and that creates a good working environment to deliver the best care possible.”

Blessing gave an example of a case of a new client who could only take on food, water and through-the-night medication through use of a tube.

“Care plans are drawn up for all clients and this need was flagged up during the initial assessment,” said Blessing. “Before the care visits started myself and other staff were given appropriate training so from day one of support we felt prepared and confident and the client had faith in us.”

Blessing, was fulfilling a lifelong ambition when, after leaving school, she qualified as a nursing assistant and began work at a hospital near her home town in Zimbabwe.

 “When I was young I used to watch people who worked in the sector and this stirred a passion within me,” said Blessing. “My father Simon had diabetes and I helped to nurse him in his final years and now I try to treat all clients as I would my own family.”

Married with three children, Blessing, 39, believes companionship can often be as important to clients as the medical side and she’s been known to go the extra mile to deliver the best support.

“Every client is different and as a carer you need a caring heart and to be willing to understand their individual needs,” she said. “

One client is very interested in Harry Potter so I spent some time reading up on the books and films. Others may like certain music and if you can find that out and put some on during a visit, have a singalong, it will raise a smile.”
