Experience of Caremark is the positive one!

Joanne Smith has experienced two very different examples of homecare in her role organising support for her great Aunt Joyce Adams. We’re pleased to say that her experience of Caremark is the positive one!
Staff from a previous company applied the wrong medical patches to Joyce’s arms. This resulted in complications that led to the 96-year-old widow being hospitalised.
That led to Joanne approaching Caremark Leeds and Caremark Bradford. They drew up a care plan for when Joyce was recovered and well enough to return home.
Our Care Assistants now visit Joyce four times a day. They assist her to get washed and dressed, and with domestic tasks. Additionally, they check she’s ok with regard to medicine, food and drink, and then help her to bed.
The Care Assistants are helping live in her own home
“There are always going to be teething problems. However, now Aunty Joyce has got to know the carers and they know her everything seems to be going well,” said Joanne.
The family had wondered whether Joyce would be able to return to her flat. They also considered whether she would have to go into a residential care home.
“She has lived in her flat for many years and stayed there after she was widowed over ten years ago,” said Joanne.
“We did discuss a care home but she is adamant she wants to live in her own flat. She wants to see her days out there and carers are helping her to do that.”

Benefiting from the social contact
At first Joyce was spending all day in bed. Gradually, with the help of Caremark, she is now able to get up each day and walk a little. She enjoys reading magazines, watching Emmerdale and, on a Sunday, Songs of Praise.
“We have seen some improvement in Auntie Joyce. She can get out of bed now and is eating a bit more,” said Joanne.
“The carers will do bits of shopping for her and check she is eating and drinking. She’s developed a taste for vitamin drinks which she really enjoys and is good for her.”
Joanne believes the social contact is also good for her Aunt.
“We speak regularly and she said just the other day how it is working out well with the carers,” said Joanne.
“It does give me peace of mind to know that someone is popping in on her regularly during the day. She enjoys their little chats.”
