Caremark Edinburgh Team Completes the Edinburgh Kiltwalk Big Stroll for the Eric Liddell Community

Last Sunday, a group of us from Caremark Edinburgh spent our day off doing something a little different. Instead of care visits, phone calls and paperwork, we joined thousands of walkers taking part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk Big Stroll, raising money for the Eric Liddell Community.
The day was never just about completing a walk. It was about coming together as a team, supporting a local organisation doing important work in the city, and playing our small part in fundraising in Edinburgh for a cause close to home.
As the walk went on, the day became a reminder of how much can be achieved when people come together with purpose, encouragement and a good sense of humour.

Walking for a Cause Close to Home
For the Caremark Edinburgh team, the Edinburgh Kiltwalk Big Stroll was about much more than completing a challenge. When we signed up for the Edinburgh Kiltwalk Big Stroll, we wanted to support a cause that makes a positive difference to local people. The Eric Liddell Community does valuable work across Edinburgh, and we were proud to raise funds in support of that work.
For many of us, caring is part of everyday life through our roles at Caremark Edinburgh. The Kiltwalk gave us a chance to support people in a different way, while spending time together outside of work and strengthening the sense of community support in Edinburgh that matters so much to us.
That shared purpose gave the day real meaning. We were not competing against anyone or chasing personal bests. We were simply walking together and doing our bit for a worthwhile local cause.
Plenty of Steps, Plenty of Laughs
From the moment we arrived at the Edinburgh Kiltwalk Big Stroll, there was a brilliant atmosphere around the city. Everywhere you looked, groups of friends, families, colleagues and supporters were gathering before setting off. Everyone had their own reason for walking, but there was a shared sense of purpose from the start.
One thing we quickly noticed was that there were far more kilts on display than we had expected. Some walkers wore them proudly, others opted for more practical walking gear, but everyone seemed ready for the challenge ahead.
For a while, the conversation centred on how impressive everyone looked, before gradually turning to the more practical matter of how far away the next rest point might be.
The walk itself gave us something we rarely get during a busy working week: time. Time to chat properly, get to know colleagues a little better, share stories and discuss increasingly important topics such as where the next snack stop might be.
As the miles passed, there were moments when tiredness began to creep in. Legs became heavier, feet became more noticeable, and the finish line somehow seemed both close and very far away at the same time.
That was where the team spirit really came into its own.
There was always someone offering encouragement, cracking a joke or helping keep the pace going. Nobody was worrying about who was fastest. The focus was simply on getting there together.
And that made all the difference.

Seeing Edinburgh From a Different Perspective
One of the nicest parts of the day was experiencing Edinburgh at walking pace.
We are all used to rushing from one place to another, so spending hours moving through the city alongside thousands of fellow walkers felt surprisingly refreshing. There was support along the route, plenty of smiles and lots of good humour from people taking part.
What stood out most was how many different people had come together for different causes. Every group had its own reason for walking, but everyone shared the same determination to keep putting one foot in front of the other.
By the later stages of the route, that shared encouragement made a real difference.
More Than Completing a Walk
One of the highlights at the Edinburgh Kiltwalk Big Stroll was spending time together away from our usual working environment and seeing the Caremark Edinburgh team support one another in a different setting.
At Caremark Edinburgh, we are used to supporting other people. On Sunday, we found ourselves supporting each other through a different kind of challenge.
The route gave us plenty of opportunities to chat, laugh and enjoy the fantastic atmosphere around us. Fellow walkers, supporters and volunteers helped keep spirits high from start to finish.
As the miles ticked by, the finish line sometimes felt reassuringly close and sometimes seemed determined to stay just out of reach. But with every step, we moved a little closer together.
After approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes, the Caremark Edinburgh team crossed the finish line together.
The sense of achievement was real — not because we had broken any records, but because we had set ourselves a challenge and completed it together.
The Edinburgh Kiltwalk Big Stroll reminded us that teamwork does not only happen in the workplace. Sometimes it happens when people are encouraging each other through the final stretch of a long walk, sharing snacks, comparing sore feet and agreeing that sitting down has never felt quite so rewarding.
Every donation and every step was in support of the Eric Liddell Community and the important work they do across Edinburgh. Knowing that gave the day its real purpose.

More Than £500 Raised Through the Edinburgh Kiltwalk Big Stroll
While we were pleased to complete the the Edinburgh Kiltwalk Big Stroll, what makes us proudest is the support we received from everyone who helped us raise just over £500 for the Eric Liddell Community.
Every donation, no matter the size, helped us reach that total.
Fundraising events can look straightforward from the outside. You sign up, put on your trainers and start walking. In reality, they only happen because people choose to support them. We were genuinely touched by the generosity and encouragement we received before and during the event.
Knowing that people had backed us helped keep us motivated when the walk started to feel a little longer than we’d remembered it being at the start.
Thank You
A huge thank you to everyone who supported the Caremark Edinburgh team, whether by donating, sharing encouragement or simply asking how we got on afterwards.
We are incredibly grateful for the support and proud to have played a small part in helping the Eric Liddell Community continue its valuable work.
The tired legs will recover. The step counts will eventually stop being a topic of conversation. But the day was a brilliant reminder of what can happen when people come together to support a local cause and look out for one another along the way.
