The important role high-quality homecare plays in Val’s life

Val Jardine has been a customer of Caremark Cheltenham & Tewkesbury for four years, and her story reflects both the challenges she has faced and the important role that high‑quality homecare care plays in her daily life.
Originally from London, Val moved to Gloucester many years ago to support her parents through cancer. She has faced numerous health challenges herself, including chronic lung disease, heart failure, arthritis, severe sight loss, and hearing difficulties.
Despite these difficulties, she remains determined to maintain her independence with the help of the Caremark team.

Deep trust and a professional therapeutic relationship
Val receives support three times a day, seven days a week and our carers help with personal care, domestic tasks, meals, and accessing the community.
Initially, and understandably, Val struggled with the idea of people coming into her home. But her relationship with the carers has developed into one of deep trust and a professional therapeutic relationship.
“It took me a little while to trust them, but now I can trust them with my life,” she says.
“It helped me a hell of a lot and truly made a difference to my life.”
The carers have become like an extended family
Val speaks warmly of her carers, particularly Marie, Elizabeth, Sarah and a male carer, Gopi.
“He’s very helpful but they are all so gentle, caring, loving and respectful,” she says.
“I’ve got the family, but I don’t speak to them, so the Caremark carers have become like an extended family.”
Val’s story is a testament not just to the practical importance of home care, but to the emotional and social value it can bring.
Through trust, compassion and companionship, we are ensuring Val can live safely, comfortably and with dignity in her own home.
