Overseas sponsorship with Caremark has enabled qualified nurse Kritika Sharma to broaden her care experience and see another part of the world. In our latest staff profile you can discover why she is thriving as a Care Assistant.

Growing up in India Kritika was motivated to become a nurse by her parents.

“My father was a police officer and mother a teacher so I think they decided we needed a medical person in the family,” she says.

“I’m glad they encouraged me because I find working in the care sector very rewarding.”

The support from Caremark was fantastic

After successfully gaining a degree in nursing, Kritika, 25, specialised in neurology and worked on a busy hospital intensive care ward.

She saw an advert for carers to work in the UK and decided to relocate to experience a different part of the world and broaden her knowledge of health care.

“When I first arrived I was feeling lonely and received a lot of support from Caremark,” said Kritika.

“They helped me to understand the immigration process and pay. My manager helped me to settle into the job and now I really enjoy my work.”

Communication is key to being a good carer

Kritika believes that to be a good carer, communication is vital.

“You need to be the sort of person who has empathy, who can sit and listen to a client and understand their individual needs,” she said.

“I see carers as a pair of hands for the client. They know what they need and we are there to help them with the things they cannot do themselves.”

Kritika usually starts work at 7am so on days off allows herself a little longer in bed. Then it’s a telephone call with mum to catch up on all the family news and a few hours enjoying a taste of home through her hobby of cooking. She has built up her holiday entitlement and plans to return to India in Spring to visit family.

Kritika has been with Caremark now for three years and hopes to progress her career within the company.

“I enjoy my job and find it very rewarding to help people,” she said. “In the future I’d like to use my degree by becoming a nurse within Caremark.”
