Better late than never! Let’s explore the traditions of the Sri Lankan New Year.

On 28th April, the Caremark Cardiff & The Vale of Glamorgan office came together to celebrate the Sri Lankan New Year. This vibrant and meaningful occasion honours the end of the harvest season. It also marks the beginning of a new year in the Sinhala and Tamil calendars.

Traditionally celebrated on 14th April, the New Year in Sri Lanka marks the sun’s transition from Pisces to Aries. This transition symbolises renewal, prosperity, and fresh beginnings. Although our celebration came a little later, the spirit of the day was just as joyful and heartfelt.

The office was filled with warmth and laughter as staff gathered to recognise this important cultural event. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect, learn, and appreciate the diversity within our team. From traditional treats to colourful decorations, celebrating the Sri Lankan New Year was a beautiful reflection of the rich heritage that many of our colleagues bring to the workplace. Moments like these remind us why it’s so important to create space for cultural recognition and celebration.
