Dementia Support in North Lincolnshire: Community Groups
Dementia affects many individuals and families across North Lincolnshire. However, with the right support, people living with dementia can continue to enjoy meaningful, connected lives. Exploring local services, community groups and care options can make a huge difference for both those experiencing dementia and the people who care for them.
In this article, we’ll cover the key dementia support services, community groups and resources available across North Lincolnshire to help individuals and families access the help they need.
Dementia is an umbrella term for a group of conditions that affect memory, communication, and day-to-day functioning. Although it is more common in older adults, it is not a natural part of ageing.
For example, early signs can include memory loss, confusion, difficulty concentrating and changes in mood or behaviour. Because of this, an early diagnosis gives individuals and families the best chance to access the right support and plan for the future.

Dementia-Friendly Cafés, Groups & Community Services
Across North Lincolnshire, there are dementia-friendly resources, such as dementia cafés. Community-based groups and events support people living with dementia and their carers.
- Scunthorpe Dementia Café — meets on the third Friday of each month, 1:00 pm–3:00 pm, at Ashby Hub, Ashby High Street, Scunthorpe (DN16 2RY). These sessions offer a relaxed, welcoming environment for people living with dementia and their carers. They have hot drinks, friendly conversations and calming activities tailored to support memory and reduce isolation.
- Barton‑upon‑Humber Dementia Café — held on the first Wednesday of each month, 1:00 pm–3:00 pm, at The Salvation Army, 114 Tofts Road, Barton-upon-Humber (DN18 5NG).
- Epworth Dementia Café — meets monthly on the second Thursday, 1:00 pm–3:00 pm, at Thurlow Pavilion, Station Road, Epworth (DN9 1JU).
- Brigg Dementia Café — held on the last Monday of every month, 1:00 pm–3:00 pm, at Brigg Methodist Church, Wesley Road, Brigg (DN20 8TR). This is a friendly monthly session for people living with dementia and their carers to connect.
These cafés are not only great for social connection and peer support, but they also provide informal advice, reduce loneliness and give links to more support and resources.
Additional Help for Carers
Carers who support someone with dementia can get extra help. This includes people who have a diagnosis or memory difficulties. Support is available from organisations such as The Carers’ Support Service. They offer training programmes and workshops, guiding carers through each stage of their journey.
Charities & Wider Support Services
In addition, charities such as Alzheimer’s Society, Dementia UK, Age UK and Carers UK provide support. This includes factsheets, helplines and advice on legal and financial matters. They also offer emotional support for carers and people they care for.
