Struggling to communicate

William* is bed bound and profoundly deaf and it quickly became apparent during the first couple of visits we had with him that he was struggling to communicate with our staff.
This made delivering the care and building a rapport between him and the care team difficult.
We provided a whiteboard and made flash cards to enable staff to communicate with William and this made a massive difference to the care we provide, which consists of four calls per day by two care assistants.
William has now built a fantastic rapport with the care assistants, He had a property that was cluttered and due to being bed bound, he was unable to support himself to live in a safe environment. With the support of our domestic calls, we were able to remove unused equipment with the support of the Red Cross and thoroughly cleaned his home.
He is now living in a safe environment at home and is very content.
