Selected among just nine UK care workers to record a Christmas charity song

A Caremark Mansfield & Ashfield member of staff has hit all the right notes. She was selected among just nine UK care workers to record a Christmas charity song at a studio made famous by The Beatles.

In the summer Macey Shaw made it through to the finals of the Homecare’s Got Talent competition.

Although she didn’t win, the 19-year-old, who lives in Mansfield, impressed so much that she was chosen among nine singers. These singers have appeared in the talent competition over the last two years to be part of a ‘Homecare’s Got Talent Choir’. The choir has recorded a new version of Robbie Williams’ 90s smash hit single ‘Angels’.

The iconic location also serves as the backdrop for the single’s music video. It offers a behind-the-scenes look at the recording as well as footage of the caregivers with their clients.

The single has now been released, and the organisers are hoping for a Christmas number one song. All proceeds from the record are going to the Care Workers’ Charity.

Macey joined Caremark Mansfield & Ashfield as a Care Assistant aged 17.

Now studying for a degree in Musical Theatre at the London College of Music, she still regularly does shifts with Caremark Mansfield & Ashfield. She does so when she returns home.

“It was an incredible experience to record at the Abbey Road Studios,” said Macey, who performs vocals on the track.

“It was amazing just to walk through the doors and think about the famous artists who have recorded there. We’re all keeping our fingers crossed that the magic rubs off on us with this charity single.”

Homecare is such a rewarding job

Macey puts her musical talents to good use entertaining customers in their own homes with songs. Her repertoire ranges from Vera Lynn to Elvis Presley.

“I’m really enjoying my course in London, but I do miss Caremark Mansfield & Ashfield and the staff and customers,” she said.

“Homecare is such a rewarding job and I always look to do a few shifts when I’m back home. It also helps pay my way through university and I get to catch up with all my friends there.”

Chloe Holmes, Care Manager at Caremark Mansfield & Ashfield, said: “We’re very proud of Macey and what she has achieved. We will all be supporting her by buying the song and hopefully getting it into the charts. Even better, becoming the Christmas number one.

“Macey is a great example of the flexibility working in homecare can give you. This flexibility enables you to pursue personal passions or just provides family-friendly hours.”
