Living in the family home with our support

An industrial accident over 20 years ago changed Andrew Harrison’s life in a second. But thanks to help from Caremark Mansfield & Ashfield he’s been able to continue living in the family home.

Whilst working at an engineering plant, the then 40-year-old Andrew was struck on the head by a heavy metal lid. It resulted in a stroke and Andrew spent a year in hospital recovering.

He returned home to live with mum, May, though the accident left him unable to get in and out of bed without assistance and needing a wheelchair to get around.

“Mum is not able to lift me so a double team come every day from Caremark and with their support I can continue living at home,” said Andrew.

Caremark act quickly, whatever the issue.

He likes the fact that if there are ever any issues, Caremark will act.

Before his accident Andrew had been an avid reader and has a collection of over 500 books with his favourites being the works of Tolkien and Pratchett.

“Unfortunately, I’m unable to read since the accident however I’ve discovered various games you can play on a tablet like Dungeons and Dragons and others based on Tolkien that I enjoy.”

The carers will do anything for me

Andrew’s sister visits regularly to take him out in the wheelchair and he also enjoys regular chats with his carers, particularly about football and his favourite team – Wolves.

“The carers I have are very good and I enjoy our chats,” said Andrew.

“If I ask for help or for them to do something for me they will.”
