Finding the right work-life balance

Finding the right work-life balance is important in any job but working at Caremark Mansfield & Ashfield certainly gives you that, as Care Assistant Keeley Deane discovered.
Keeley first joined the care sector four years ago but on returning from maternity leave discovered shifts available at the company she was with didn’t provide the flexibility to fit around her baby and her other three children.
“That’s when I first applied to Caremark and I found they offered flexible hours that worked for family life,” said Keeley.
“I’ve been here just under a year and I am very happy. Through choice I’ve gradually been able to increase my hours during school times and some evening and weekend work so it is full time now.”
The importance of the care profession
Keeley, 32, had begun her working life in a children’s nursery before switching to the care sector. The importance of the profession hit home for Keeley when her grandfather was taken ill and she vowed she would treat clients as if they were her own family and with a positive attitude.
“Delivering the actual care is only half the job. For many clients it is about the companionship,” said Keeley.
“If you are the silent type this probably isn’t the job for you. Most people want to have a chat and a laugh. The smile that comes across their faces when you walk through the door makes it all worthwhile.”

Progressing her career
There’s a lot going on in Keeley’s life at the moment. She’s currently planning her wedding to partner Dan. Honeymoon will be a city break in Rome and a family holiday with the children in Spain.
After years of working around her family, Keeley believes she is now able to balance that with also progressing her own career.
“I have a supportive partner who has said go for it,” said Keeley.
“Caremark have a very good staff trainer who I have had discussions with and I am ready to start studying for the necessary qualifications.”
For anyone else at a crossroads and considering a career in home care support she has some straight forward advice.
“Go for it. You don’t need experience to start with, just the right attitude. If you have a company like Caremark with good training in place and flexible hours, then the rest is up to you.”
