Shifau Bello originally became a carer as a way of earning money whilst she did her Masters’ Degree, but she loved it so much it has now become her full-time profession.

The 31-year-old completed her Masters in Public Health at Hull University after moving to the UK from her native Nigeria.

With two young children, she likes the flexibility working in home care gave her and the fact she was making a difference by helping people remain in their own homes, so when she was offered a full-time position at Caremark Leeds, she didn’t hesitate to accept.

And now, even working full-time hours, she still has the flexibility which enables her to do the many things she loves as a mum, such as picking her children up from school, cooking for them and taking them out for visits.

Shifau says: “I never thought when I came to the UK to complete my Masters that I would end up working full-time in homecare, but I just love everything about it.

“My customers feel like family to me and when I leave them after each visit, I feel like something is missing and can’t wait to see them again at the next visit.

“Putting smiles on people’s faces and helping them be at home is so rewarding and it doesn’t feel like a job to me.”

Living in Bradford, Shifau was allocated customers close to her home so she doesn’t need to drive far.

“That’s one of the many reasons I like working for Caremark Leeds because they want you to be happy and so they place you as close as possible to your home.

“It means I still get to spend lots of quality time with my husband and our children, so I couldn’t be happier.”
