Peace of mind

Daily visits by home care support staff can ensure a person is able to stay living in their own home, and provide vital peace of mind for their family.

That is the case for community stalwart Mary Phillips* who has been left speechless and immobile after being struck down with dementia and Parkinson’s.

Now 87, Mary is well known in her local community from her profession as a midwife, her tireless voluntary work with her local Church, on groups promoting equality and diversity and on school governing bodies.

Her daughter, Jane*, lives with her and is a full-time carer, supported by daily visits from Caremark Leeds.

“A residential care home was not something we wanted for mum,” said Jane. “She needs 24-hour care but it is very very important that she is at home with us.”

Mary switched to Caremark after a previous company was unable to provide the care required.

Now Caremark Leeds visit every morning, seven days a week, using a hoist to help Mary get out of bed. They then help her get washed and dressed ready for the day. Sometimes this might include getting her into a wheelchair so Jane can take mum to the local day centre.

“She knows the people from Caremark and I have peace of mind that they are trained and know what they are doing and mum is safe with them,” said Jane.  “We have good communication with the office and if there is ever any issue they keep me informed.”
