AWOC and Caremark join forces for movement, connection and joy
Caremark Cheltenham and Gloucester joined forces with Gloucestershire’s AWOC group this week.
At Caremark Cheltenham and Gloucester, we believe in the power of community and the importance of supporting those around us. Especially individuals who may not have the support network many of us take for granted. That’s why we were absolutely thrilled to team up with Age UK Gloucestershire. We hosted a special chair-based exercise class for their monthly Ageing Without Children (AWOC) group.
Held on Thursday, 29th May at the welcoming Cheltenham Holiday Inn Express, the session was more than just an exercise class. It was an opportunity to bring people together through exercise, promote well-being, and share a few smiles along the way.
What is AWOC?
Age UK Gloucestershire’s AWOC group is a safe, supportive space for older individuals who, either by choice or circumstance, don’t have children around to offer support as they age. These monthly gatherings provide connection, community, and shared understanding – something we at Caremark truly value and admire.
Meet the Team Behind the Morning
The exercise class was led by our very own Jo Folkes, Caremark’s Care Manager and a registered physiotherapist. Jo’s expertise and energy brought a tailored session of chair-based exercises, making it safe, accessible, and fun for everyone involved. Jo was joined by Emily Perret, our Recruitment and Onboarding Manager. Emily’s warmth and enthusiasm helped make the morning run smoothly. Also, Jane Davies, the dedicated leader of the AWOC group, brings incredible heart to every meeting.
Moving Together for a Good Cause
Chair-based exercise is a fantastic way to stay active, particularly for those with limited mobility or who prefer a gentler form of fitness. But beyond the physical benefits, the real value of the morning was in the laughter, the chatter, and the shared experience. It’s moments like these that remind us of the power of human connection.
Looking Ahead
We’re proud to say the morning was a huge success – and this is just the beginning. Caremark Cheltenham and Gloucester are committed to continuing our efforts to give back to the local community in meaningful ways. Collaborations like this with AWOC are a reminder that even small actions can have a big impact, especially for those who may not have family nearby.
