Brain tumour

Michael Steeper was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of ten and has fought it bravely ever since.

Now aged 42, despite having chemotherapy and an operation to remove the tumour (doctors were unable to remove it all), Michael has sadly been told that nothing more can be done and that he now only has a short time left to live.

A massive Oasis fan, thanks to Caremark’s Care for a Wish initiative, Michael was recently able to enjoy his own private concert by an Oasis tribute act in his favourite workingmen’s club.

He was surrounded by his family, friends and members of the Caremark Doncaster team.

Our Care Assistants visit Michael four times a day

Caremark began providing care for Michael two years ago and our Care Assistants visit him four times a day to attend to his personal care needs. He also gets a four-hour community call each week so he can go out with his mum Sue to do things he enjoys, including playing bingo.

Sue says “Michael has his good days and bad days, but he looks forward to seeing the carers, especially Asha who is his favourite.

“They have become like a family to us and that’s the best compliment I can, nothing is ever too much trouble for them.”

It has given him a real boost

Sue says knowing he was going to have his own Oasis themed concert and party has really picked him up.

“It’s given him a real boost and I can’t thank the team at Caremark Doncaster enough for nominating him for Care for a Wish,” she adds.

“He got to see all his favourite songs being played in a venue he loves and surrounded by the people he loves. It was a very special day.”

As you will see with Michael, it’s not just homecare for older people we provide, but younger people too, so if you or someone you know would benefit from our services in Doncaster, Bassetlaw or West Lindsey, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
