Jean knows what good care looks like

After 30 years working as a warden at a sheltered housing scheme, it’s safe to say that Jean Gibson knows what good care looks like. And now she is on the receiving end of the care, Jean says she is very happy with the support she receives from Caremark Doncaster.

Jean looks back with fond memories of the time she spent as a Warden. She says she enjoyed every minute of it apart from one.

“The day I left,” she jokes.

“There were 42 people living in the scheme I worked at and it was generally about looking after their health and welfare. But I always did a little bit more, whether that was bringing in coal when it was cold, or making them meals.”

It helps Keith too as it gives him some respite

Jean now lives at home with her husband Keith. They married later in life even though they have known each other since they were children.

Personal circumstances meant they had to wait a little longer to become a couple. But as far as they are concerned it was very much a case of better late than never. Now they have been married for over 20 years.

We started visiting Jean in 2025 our carers come four times a day to provide personal care and other support.

“Because I have been on the side, I know what good care looks like. I can safely say Caremark definitely provide that,” says Jean.

“I have a laugh with the carers and it has helped Keith. As many main carer, when they are here it gives him some respite which is important.”
