care services cambridge digital help

The government has announced that £3 million in funding will be made available for technological investments designed to improve the independence of people who receive care, to reduce avoidable hospital admissions and to increase care quality and safety.

The Adult Social Care Technology Fund aims to transform how digital tech is used in the sector, concentrating on identifying care-focused solutions that could have the potential for a large-scale rollout.

Alongside this new wave of funding, support will also continue to be available through the digitising social care programme for digital social care record adoption, which can help care teams deliver safer and more personalised care.

The fund itself is open for applications on a rolling basis, so care providers that haven’t been successful this time can try again at a later date.

Successful projects to have been awarded in this wave of investment include Shropshire Council’s pilot scheme to embed technology in homes alongside a virtual care delivery service, supporting independence in the home and helping people prioritise self-care, managing their needs day to day by themselves.

Helen Whately, minister for care, said: “I’m delighted to announce the projects receiving the first £3 million of our adult social care technology fund today. These exciting projects will use technology to improve quality of care and help people live independently for longer. More care at home and more personalised care is what people want and helps reduce pressure on the NHS.

“We are also investing in digital care records to join up care and reduce the burden of admin on staff. I look forward to seeing these projects develop and scale up the use of technology in social care, better meeting people’s care needs and helping us build a sustainable care system.”

This follows hot on the heels of further government investment to the tune of £30 million in innovative technology to help slash waiting lists, speed up diagnoses and improve patient care.
