No mean feat

With 5,000 people to choose from across the UK, it would be an understatement to say that winning the national Caremark Care Assistant of the Month award is no mean feat.

That’s why we were delighted when we discovered that our very own Samantha Willis had won the award for March.

The judges choose Sam after reading a very moving customer story supplied by our Care Manager Chloe Holmes which revolves around an individual who was struggling due to the death of her daughter. This led to a plan being put in place, at which Sam was at the heart of delivering. You can read the story in full here, but a summary is as follows:

‘TB now is more receptive of care and has built a fantastic bond with Sam as she was the one who helped with every part of this plan and she continues to look for ways to improve TB’s life, whether that’s taking her out for her first hair cut in 15 years or a simple cooked meal in a cafe. This was a lady that would never let us into her home at the start of our service commencement and now relies on us and specifically Sam’s support. Even during the most difficult times of her life, Sam has been there for her.’

Sam, who has been awarded a certificate, flowers and £75 for winning the award, said she was overwhelmed when she discovered she had won.

“With so many carers to choose from, it’s amazing to think that people thought I was worthy of the award,” she said.

Sam has worked in care for seven years, starting in residential care before moving into homecare and joining Caremark in 2024.

“I enjoyed residential care, but I find it’s much nicer caring for people in their own homes where they feel safe and secure,” she adds.

“I love meeting new people and getting to know them. It’s a real life-changing job.”

Outside of work, Sam enjoys spending time with her husband and their five children, five cats and five dogs, which, as you can imagine, keep her very busy”
