Letween scaled

Letween Maturure is a natural born carer.

That’s because in her native Zimbabwe, caring is something you do at an early age.

She explains: “It’s in our culture to care for others whether that’s your grandparents or older members of your extended family.

“This happens when you are very young so caring for people is something which just comes naturally to me.”

We are certainly witnessing this for ourselves at Caremark Mansfield because despite only joining us in September 2023, Letween has certainly had a positive impact and she was the very deserving winner of our recent Going the Extra Mile (GEM) award.

Letween had made a great impression with both carers and customers, and we have had numerous compliments about her attitude towards care.

She gets stuck in and makes our customers feel at ease, with sone saying “Letween is the first carer to suggest a positive way forward for which I am grateful, not only to help lessen my anxiety, but she showed initiative too. I find Letween always to be a professional, happy, caring, and considerate carer and look forward to her attending my calls.”

Letween studied finance and administration at college and went on to achieve a master’s degree in economics. But she believes her calling was always going to be in care.

“When I was at college, we were encouraged to take part in community projects in our spare time and I helped support people with disabilities and under-privileged people in Zimbabwe,” she says.

“Then when I Ieft college I worked for a non-governmental organisation which helped younger girls understand life and the different challenges they face, using my own experiences as part of this.”

Letween came to the UK on overseas sponsorship and says she really enjoys working for Caremark Mansfield.

“When I first started, I shadowed carers and they really looked after me and I felt an immediate sense of family, which is very important to me,” she says.

“The customers I support are very nice and I was surprised when I discovered I had been put forward for the GEM award because I don’t think I do anything special.

“But it’s nice to know that my colleagues and customers are happy with my work.”

Outside of work, Letween enjoys spending time with the friends she has made whilst working at Caremark and visiting her aunt and uncle in Derby. She also likes music, dancing, reading and relaxing.
