Front-line workers join forces this Easter Weekend
Caremark (Worthing & Adur), a leading home care provider part of the Caremark Limited national franchise network and Brighton police station has combined their efforts this easter weekend and forfeited their Easter goodies to give to the both the Worthing soup kitchen and Brighton & hove homeless charity.
Nicky Newham, Registered Care Manager at Caremark (Worthing & Adur) said: “We regularly donate tins and other food items to the Worthing soup kitchen, but with such a difficult year this Easter we felt like spirits needed to be lifted one egg at a time! “
Our amazing team of careers and police officers all came together and donated a car full of goodies. Our very own Training Manager Rachel Willis said: “There are so many people in our community that have experienced hard times this past year, even just forfeiting such a simple thing as an egg can help lift their spirits. Children have experienced a lot of change and it is important that they still get to celebrate our important holidays with their families whether a small egg hunt or some fun colouring!”
Khristina organiser of the Worthing soup kitchen was overjoyed at the sheer number of items she received from Caremark (Worthing & Adur) everything from chocolate eggs to colouring books, teddies, colouring eggs and more.
Khristina started the Worthing soup kitchen on her own over 8 years ago at St. Clare’s Day centre and her continuous dedication to the community, helping others and connecting with others is a true sign of compassion. Her focus is to help others with whatever their needs are whether if it is clothes, a warm shower, hearty meals, advise on benefit claims and other areas of support Kristina and her Team are always there for the community.
Kristina said: “COVID has impacted our community massively this has created an increase in their services such as food parcels, takeaway service and opening the food bank on extra days. I am only as good as my team and they have been so strong and supportive even when we had to increase our capacity and decrease or number of volunteers due to COVID restrictions. Donations like Caremark (Worthing & Adur) are vital to our community and I am very grateful for their continuous help.”
Worthing Soup Kitchen run an outreach service on Thursday nights delivering food directly to the homeless community & a Takeaway service at St. Clare’s Day centre on Sunday mornings between 9-11am. Due to COVID the food parcels have increased to an average of 30-40 families per week and seen an increase in requests for supplying basic household items to those in need.
