Hounslow residents, businesses and those who work and travel through the borough, are being encouraged to prepare for the Mayor of London’s expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) to cover outer London from 29 August.

To support the expansion of the ULEZ into the borough and across the city, the Mayor has announced a number of initiatives to help Londoners prepare including a £110 million Transport for London (TfL) vehicle scrappage scheme which is now open for applications. Early application for the grants is encouraged as demand is likely to outstrip the total available.

The changes will offer a real opportunity for the city and borough to help reduce air pollution and offer a greener, cleaner environment for all as we work towards our net zero emissions commitment by 2030.

Londoners receiving certain means-tested benefits and non-means-tested disability benefits can apply for grants of up to £2,000 to scrap their non-compliant cars or motorcycles. Disabled people who want to scrap or retrofit a non-compliant wheelchair-accessible vehicle will be able to apply for grants of £5,000 to reflect the higher cost of these vehicles. The scheme also includes an option to opt for two bus and tram season tickets.

There are also several organisations offering support both to those eligible for the scheme and all Londoners that don’t qualify. You can get money off things like hire and subscription services for car clubs, bikes, cargo bikes and many other discounts.

As with the existing ULEZ, vehicles which do not comply with emissions standards will pay a daily £12.50 fee to enter or drive within the zone. Drivers who fail to pay the fee will face a £180 fine.
