Hounslow Council awarded £165,000 to turn notorious fly-tipping sites into allotments in ‘first of its kind’ scheme
Hounslow Council has received government backing to transform wasteland across the borough into allotments. The council’s Grow for the Future scheme aims to turn unused areas of brown belt land into allotments in order to grow food and teach urban children about sustainability.
This is the first programme of its type, with the council being awarded £165,000 from the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund to pursue its objectives. As well as allotments the scheme will convert unloved land into community gardens and orchards.
