Brain Injury Care in Rotherham: Jesse’s Story

Jesse with his team has worked on his physical rehabilitation with our brain injury care services in Rotherham, to a point where he can begin using a standing hoist and sit in a wheelchair.

Caremark were asked to plan for and facilitate a 24-hour brain injury care package in advance of his discharge from hospital. We selected a team of support workers who best matched Jesse’s needs considering the impact on him of his accident.

Jesse was involved in a road traffic accident, and as a result, Jesse suffered a brain injury which has affected his day-to-day life. Jesse had a tracheostomy fitted to ensure stable breathing and a PEG fitted which ensured he could receive the nutrition and hydrational requirements that he needed. His mobility has also been severely inhibited. Whilst he has some movement in his hands and legs he cannot weight-bear.

We introduced Support Workers to Jesse whilst in hospital for Jesse to get to know them. His support workers trained specifically on his tracheostomy, PEG and mobility regimes so that he could gain trust in them and have confidence he would be safely supported once discharged and back home.

After a period in his rehabilitation centre, Jesse was successfully discharged home with his Caremark team supporting him 24/7 with his brain injury.

Developing a Fantastic Bond with His Care Assistants

Jesse has come a long way since his discharge home, he has had his tracheostomy successfully removed, his feeding regime is well managed and his mobility is improving through his rehabilitation programme supported by his care team.

Jesse, with brain injury support in Rotherham from his care team, attends school again and recently had the confidence to attend the Caremark Christmas party which he really enjoyed. This was the first social event that Jesse had attended since his discharge from the hospital and as soon as he entered the Party room Jesse’s comments were…

‘I am Literally so excited!’

As everyone welcomed and said hello to him, Jesse was happy that people knew who he was, he said..

‘Everyone loves me!’

Jesse has such a bubbly personality. One of his Caremark Support Workers who worked with Jesse on her birthday said.

‘I really enjoyed seeing him, he made my birthday so special!’
