We are a domiciliary care provider serving the Isle of Thanet. Our offices are on the Westwood Industrial Estate in Margate. We offer care and support services throughout Thanet, including: Acol, Birchington, Broadstairs, Cliffsend, Manston, Margate, Minster, Monkton, Ramsgate, St Nicholas-at-Wade and Westgate on Sea.
We have been providing home care services to the residents of Thanet since 2012. In that short time we have developed a reputation for the outstanding quality of the services we provide. We offer a full range of home care services from a 30 minute call to live in care.
There are two of us at the head of the company: Jayne Costain and me, Garry Costain. Jayne is the Director of Care and Registered Care Manager and I'm the Managing Director. Jayne has gained a wealth of experience in health care from working as a nurse for over fifteen years. My background lies in management and education.
Our Philosophy is very simple. We are a business. We are part of the service sector. We provide a very important service to some of the most vulnerable people in our society. Our customers are the reason we exist. We aim to provide outstanding domiciliary care to each of our customers: And on that we will never compromise.
Customer service, therefore, is at the very core of what we do. If you're looking for home care for yourself or on for another; we know you have a choice. You can choose to go to one of Thanet’s many other excellent home care providers. However, we want you to exercise your choice in our favour. We want you to become our customer, remain our customer and recommend us to others who will in turn become our customers.
Customer service is not a science; it is much more of an art, and as with any art there are imperfections. However, to achieve our aim of providing outstanding home care to all our customers we have a very clear ethos: established by the us; adopted by all. Our customers are the most important people for our business; our care and support workers are the most important people in our business; a socially responsible business is most important for everyone. Providing a service to our customers is not an inconvenience. It is the reason that we exist. If customers did not want our services, Caremark Thanet would not be needed. Our customers pay to receive a service. Providing that service is not an inconvenience, it is a privilege, it is our duty, it is a privileged duty.
Caremark Thanet is a socially responsible local business. Where possible we buy our supplies from other local businesses. Local businesses supporting local businesses is good for the local economy and local people.
We provide a full range of domiciliary care services for adults. We work with you to design your personal home care plan. This can range from a 30 minute care and support visit through to hour live-in support.
Our services include: companionship, personal care, sitting services, overnight support, live-in care, domestic help, meal preparation and shopping. If there is something that is not listed that does not mean that we cannot provide that service. We take a very positive approach to the services that our customers may need. It’s a very simple approach: you tell us what you need and then we find out a way to meet that need.
Live-In Care Live in care is becoming an increasingly popular option for many people. It is an alternative to residential care. We can provide you with a live in care service. We call this service Habito. Live in care, or Habito, provides you with the care and support you need to allow you to continue to live in your home and retain your independence.
We know from the many conversations we have with our customers that remaining living in their homes is one of the most important things in their lives. The old saying about our homes being where our hearts are is certainly true. Our homes are the places where we live, which we love and where we long for when we are away.
How Does Live-In Care Work? It's really quite straightforward. We'll come and have a chat with you to find out exactly what care and support you require. We then select one of our care and support workers who will live in with you seven days a week. He or she will provide the services that you require.
What Services Can a Live-In Carer Provide? The answer is that a live in carer can provide pretty much any service that can be provided as a domiciliary care service: companionship, personal care, shopping, domestic duties, accompanied trips out, amongst other things, are fairly typical services that a live in carer might provide for you. There is no standard pattern because your requirements are unique.
Thanet’s Changing Home Care Landscape If you live in Thanet and receive domiciliary care through social services you will be aware of the controversial change that came into effect in 2014.
Home care in Thanet, like home care throughout Kent, is provided by a number of private companies under contract with Kent County Council (KCC). Until 2014, KCC worked with over 120 providers throughout Kent. From 2 June 2014, this was reduced to 23. In Thanet there are now just 3 home care providers. But this does not mean that you cannot choose your domiciliary care provider: far from it. You can choose with a direct payment. Direct Payments If you are receiving home care through social services and you want to choose your provider, all you have to do is ask that KCC provide you with a direct payment. This allows you to buy your own care from the provider of your choice. There are a small number of cases where you will not be entitled to a direct payment, but these are very rare. In most cases, you have a right to have a direct payment.
Who Qualifies for a Direct Payment? If KCC pays for some or all of your care costs, you will, under normal circumstances, have a right to a direct payment. This money is paid into your bank account or onto your Kent Card. The Kent Card is a debit card that KCC can provide you with.
