What Do You Want from Employment?

In a 2018 in the Harvard Business Review, there are three things that you want from employment: career, community and cause. The article had a fairly narrow population from which the people surveyed were selected: they were all staff employed by Facebook; however, it is my view that the survey results will apply pretty much generally. Certainly at Caremark Thanet we offer each of these things and we believe that they are essential.

Caremark Thanet Sponsor Age UK Thanet's Dementia Empowerment Day

It is estimated that in Thanet there are over 2000 people living with dementia and this figure will rise to approximately 3000 in 2026. In Kent the figures are over 22 000 people currently living with dementia, rising to over 30 000 in 2026. Dementia respects no-one. The unpalatable truth is that dementia has no sympathy for illness, for gender or status and Dementia will touch the lives of many of us. Although there is no cure there are various avenues of help. And Caremark Thanet is very pleased to be able to sponsor one of those Avenues.

A Caremark Thanet's Carer Journey so far....

Caremark Thanet would like to share Katherine Campbell’s carer journey so far.

The qualities we look for in an applicant at interview stage are, a caring nature, which may seem obvious to us however you only have to look at the horrendous abuse cases that you hear about in the media to know that not all who work in care are caring. Another quality they must have is being reliable, as they will be looking after the most vulnerable people in society. Being flexible is also important as the customer's care needs change regularly.

Our ethos governs everything that we do. 'We believe that our customers are the most important people for our business; that our care and support workers are the most important people in our business; that a socially responsible business is most important to everyone.'

From the start our carers must adhere to our ethos, they must have high standards and go above and beyond their duties as a care and support worker as our customers deserve a quality service to help them maintain independence and live in their own home.

Caremark Thanet at Thanet Over Fifties Forum 'Living with Dementia'

As a business Caremark Thanet believe it is important to engage with and support the local community and organisations. On 24th January Caremark Thanet attended and had a stall at the Thanet Over Fifties Forum (TOFFs) at their 'Living with Dementia' information session and discussion at Trinity Community Centre, Margate.

Guest speakers were admiral nurse, Jade Garlick and mental health nursing lecturer Niall McLaughlin.

The event was very well attended, with many of the public asking for advice from the specialist teams and organisations.

TOFFs is a fairly new project, launched in September 2017. It is part of the Thanet Community Support Partnership and [as stated on their website] their main purpose is to raise the voice of older people from across Thanet on both local and national issues that impact on the quality of our lives.

Subscription to TOFFs is FREE and the only criterion for membership is that you are over 50 years of age. Please visit http://www.thanetcommunitysupport.org.uk/toffs.php for more information.

Important Things You Should Know about Choosing Home Care

The very thought of having to pay for domiciliary care is something that few of us particularly want to – well think about. In the world of marketing, paying for care services is referred to as a distress purchase, something we have to buy but wish we didn’t. For many people, however, the difficulty they experience in finding information is the wort part of looking for home care. Indeed, in 2014 the Care Quality Commissionconducted a survey that found choosing care (home care or residential) for a relative was more stressful than buying a house or going through a divorce. What Is Live-in Care?Live-in care is where a carer lives with you to help you with your care needs. Though it may not suit everyone, live in care is undoubtedly an alternative to residential care that is worth considering. Quite typically, your carer will live with you seven days a week, although variations are possible. You might, for example have a live-in carer during the week and stay with your family at the weekend. Often, live-in care will be a permanent arrangement; it is possible, though, to have live-in care for a short period of time; for example, while you are recovering from an operation.

This article offers advice about choosing your domiciliary care provider. It is particularly aimed at people who are, or who are seeking to be, wholly or partly funded by social services.
