Caremark appointed to provide lifeline support

Caremark (Redcar and Cleveland) has been appointed to provide 24-hour-a-day social care and support services to elderly and vulnerable people using a lifeline community alarm system

Caremark (Redcar and Cleveland) is responding to calls received via a new service being delivered by Cleveland Fire Brigade through its Community Interest Company (CIC) in partnership with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.

The arrangement, which is the first of its kind in the UK, means people using newly installed alarms will see calls handled by the Brigade's Call Centre, with Caremark (Redcar and Cleveland) staff then being dispatched to respond swiftly when support is needed, e.g. when someone has had a fall or in need of assistance.

This service is being offered and provided by Cleveland Fire Brigade (CIC) throughout all the Borough of Redcar and Cleveland. It will be provided to people referred through the local authority or by people approaching the Fire Brigade (CIC) directly.

Caremark (Redcar and Cleveland) Managing Director Charles Folkes said: "We are extremely proud to be working in partnership with Cleveland Fire Brigade's Community Interest Company and to be the provider of this service in such a ground-breaking new initiative.

"Working with the Brigade's Community Interest Company and the local council, we have pledged to respond to all calls swiftly and within specific guidelines and our staff will be available 24-hours-a day, 365-days of the year.

"We will also be part of the team that carries out new assessments and installations when people require the community alarms.'

Ian Hayton, Chief Fire Officer at Cleveland Fire Brigade said: "We are delighted to be delivering this service to the people of Redcar and Cleveland as we continue our work to improve the quality of life and safety of our communities.

"Our trading company will provide this service which will give the current support, as well as ensuring everyone on this contract receives a free annual Home Fire Safety Visit.

"Our professional value for money service will strengthen the protection we provide and we are proud to expand our services to the people of Cleveland. All proceeds made from this contract will be reinvested back into those communities in order to further improve services and public safety."
