New Training Opportunities with Caremark

We are all very excited about 2015. Caremark (Redbridge) have organised for our Care Workers to study more qualifications next year. New courses on offer are QCF (NVQ) level 2 in Health and Social care, and Diabetes training - that's just in January. We are planning on many more additional training sessions for our staff in 2015.

One Week that Affects All of Us - Are You Prepared to Care?

This week is national Carers’ Week, an initiative delivered by a partnership of national charities, which aims to improve the lives of the UK’s 6.5 million carers and the people they care for.

This year, the theme is ‘Prepared to Care?’ which is also the title of a report released to coincide with the launch of Carers’ Week. Over 2000 carers were surveyed about the challenges they face as well as the positive consequences of their caring role.

Carer vs. Career

A recent article by Katharine Whitehorn in The Guardian, talks of the lack of status given to carers in the NHS. In contrast to this, the quality and development of Caremark (Redbridge, Harlow & Epping) Carers is what continues to help us raise the standards of Home Care. So of course we are going to develop and invest in our team of Carers. Whitehorn concludes the article by referring to a time some years ago when The Guardian’s assistant editor mistakenly corrected the word ‘carer’ to the word ‘career’. Whitehorn argues that actually he was right - Caring should be seen as a Career. We certainly think so.

Is The UK becoming a nation of carers?

The 2011 census showed that approximately 5.8 million people in the UK were providing unpaid care. Compared with the 2001 census, these figures have increased. And the number of people aged over 85 (the group statistically most likely to require care) is expected to rise by 50% to 1.9 million over the next decade. This, coupled with funding cuts to public care services, is therefore something which is a concern for all of us. Read full story below.
